What Is Scar Revision?
Scar revision is any procedure designed to improve the texture, feel, appearance of imperfections of and on your skin due to any cause. The goal is to minimize the signs of scarring. These procedures can help to make the scars look less visible attempting to have the scar(s) blend in with the patient’s skin tone, color and texture.
A scar is actually a glue produced by every creature to seal a break in the outer layer of protection. In Humans we call this our skin. Scar is a combination of glue and cells. You can think of this as “Bricks and Mortar”. Depending on how much glue your individual body produces will determine whether the scar heals as a “Fine line”, “Widened patch”, elevated like a “speed bump” (hypertrophic) or a “Mushroom Cap” (Keloid). The type of injury also can play a role on the resultant scar that forms. Thermal or chemical burns tend to be much deeper and wider while linear or knife like scars are more linear or contained. If a injury is a graze it will usually heal without a mark. Wounds that do not heal well can have an effect on your appearance especially if areas that are uncovered socially in public or privately when intimate.
The type of scar that you have will ultimately determine the type of treatment and techniques Dr. Gray and his staff will use. This is where Dr. Gray and his staff can make a difference.
